On January 30, 2025, the NSS Wing of Don Bosco College organized an awareness programme on ‘Segregation of Waste and Its Impact on the Environment’ to promote responsible waste management and a cleaner environment. Twelve NSS volunteers participated under the guidance of Dr. Fr. Wilson, Director, Fr. Sanjay, Administrator, and Ms. Archana Sukumaran, NSS Faculty Coordinator.
The programme included presentations in eleven classrooms, informing students and faculty about waste segregation into ‘Wet, Dry, and Hazardous’ categories. The objective was to reduce landfill waste and encourage sustainable practices.
The event commenced with a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary, recognizing his role in promoting cleanliness and sustainability. A key part of the programme was an introduction to the SORT (Segregation of Organic Waste for Recycling and Treatment) project, which utilizes Bio-Waste Compost bins to produce organic compost for the college vegetable garden. The NSS Wing also presented its campus sustainability initiatives and recognitions. The classroom sessions facilitated interaction among students and faculty from various departments, increasing awareness of waste management practices.
