The ‘Bosco Checkmate Championship 2024’ was held on November 29, 2024, at Don Bosco College, K.R. Puram. The event attracted nearly 150 participants from over 20 PU colleges and schools, showcasing the region’s young chess talent.
At the inaugural ceremony, Fr. Wilson Konthempilly, Director of the College, emphasised the importance of chess in fostering strategic thinking and intellectual development. Fr. Dr. Geo Kalladanthyil, the Principal, highlighted the role of such events in nurturing young talent. The Principal officially declared the tournament open, marking the commencement of the competition.
Mr. Ravi Kiran, a FIDE-rated player and founder of the Dark Knight Chess Academy, explained the rules and regulations to ensure fair play and smooth execution of the matches. The finals featured a competitive game between representatives of Mount Carmel College and St. Vincent Palloti PU College. Ms. Adithi Devaki, a FIDE-rated player from St. Vincent Palloti PU College, emerged victorious, securing the championship title after a series of intense matches. The tournament followed a knockout format, with each game lasting 30 to 45 minutes.
The championship concluded with a valedictory ceremony where winners were felicitated. Dr. Maria Nirmal Preethi, the event convenor, delivered the vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of the college management, participants, and contributors. The Bosco Checkmate Championship 2024 highlighted the growing interest in chess and provided a platform for strategic and intellectual competition.
