On January 11, 2025, Don Bosco College (DBC) had the honour of participating in the culmination and felicitation ceremony of Project S.O.R.T. (Segregation of Waste for Recycling and Treatment) Bengaluru Phase – I. This initiative, led by the Swarna Latha Motherson Trust in collaboration with its NGO partner, IPCA, celebrated the collective efforts made in waste management and environmental sustainability. Representing DBC at the ceremony were Rev. Fr. Sanjay, the College Administrator, Ms. Archana Sukumaran, the NSS Faculty Coordinator, and eight NSS volunteers involved in the S.O.R.T. project.
The event saw the participation of 20 Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and several educational institutions. During the ceremony, Ms. Spurthi, the project coordinator, shared the remarkable journey of Project S.O.R.T. across Bengaluru. She highlighted the successful collection of 15 metric tons of organic manure from various stakeholder communities during Phase I of the project.

The ceremony served as an enlightening platform, with key speakers such as Dr. Shanthi Tummala, Dr. Soumya Raghavan, and Mr. Aditya Vardhan Joshi (Chief Functionary of the Swarna Latha Motherson Trust CSR Team) stressing the importance of initiatives like these in fostering a cleaner and greener environment. Their message emphasized the responsibility we all share in safeguarding the environment for future generations.

Don Bosco College was honored for its unwavering commitment and significant contributions to the S.O.R.T. Project. In recognition of our efforts, the college was felicitated and awarded the Runner-Up Position for Sustainability Criteria. This accolade acknowledged DBC’s effective approach in promoting sustainability within the community.

Ms. Feba Reji, on behalf of the entire S.O.R.T. team at DBC, shared insights into the project’s journey at the college and assured that the initiative would not be confined to the campus alone. She emphasized the plan to extend the project’s reach to surrounding communities and institutions through continued awareness programs. Ms. Spurthi and her team expressed their appreciation for DBC’s efforts and encouraged us to broaden the scope of the project to impact even more communities and institutions in the future.
