Don Bosco Students Explore Broadcasting at Doordarshan

On September 24, 2024, 31 journalism students from Don Bosco College visited Doordarshan, India’s public service broadcaster, as part of an industrial visit. The visit aimed to learn about broadcasting operations and gain practical experience.

During the visit, the students learned about various facilities, including the video studio, where they observed video production and post-production processes, and the Production Control Room (PCR), the hub of live broadcasting. They also visited the news studio to understand how news programs are produced and broadcast and learned about signal transmission and broadcasting technologies at the satellite outreach facility.

The students expressed enthusiasm for the insights gained into the technical and operational aspects of broadcasting. “The industrial visit to Doordarshan was enriching, providing practical knowledge and bridging the gap between theory and application,” said Akshaya, a 3rd-year student. Alisa, a 2nd-year student, noted that the visit deepened their understanding of journalism’s technical aspects, inspiring many to pursue careers in broadcasting. Xavier Virgin, a 2nd-year student, remarked, “It was an exhilarating experience that revealed how news channels operate and the career opportunities within the television industry.” A total of 31 students participated in the program alongside their faculty members, highlighting the importance of hands-on exposure in journalism.
