Students of I BCA (A) from Don Bosco College, KR Puram, Bengaluru, visited the Supercomputer Education and Research Centre (SERC) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, on December 5, 2025, as part of an industrial visit.
The visit introduced students to high-performance computing systems, advanced computing, data science, and the operations of the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM) data centre at IISc. The sessions covered the structure and applications of supercomputers used in scientific research.
Students were shown PARAM ‘Pravega’, a supercomputer with a performance of 3.3 × 10⁵ and a total memory of 209.66 TB. The system is used for climate change research and related computational work.
Information was also shared about PARAM ‘Rajan’, a next-generation supercomputer scheduled for commissioning by March 2026. The system is expected to have a computing capacity nearly three times that of PARAM ‘Pravega.’
The visit provided students with exposure to supercomputing infrastructure and research practices. Don Bosco College thanked IISc Bengaluru and the SERC team for facilitating the visit.
