HOD’S Message

Dr. Mary Binu T.D

HOD

Head of the Department of Humanities
Don Bosco College
Welcome to the Department of Humanities!
As the Head of the Department, it is my privilege to guide a vibrant community where intellectual curiosity meets creative expression. Our department is a dynamic blend of English Literature, Psychology, Journalism, and Kannada, offering students a rich academic experience that connects them with the complexities of human existence, culture, and the world around them.
English Literature serves as a gateway to exploring diverse worlds, both real and imagined. Through the study of classic and contemporary works, our students gain a deep appreciation for literature while honing their critical thinking and analytical skills. Programs such as Writer of the Month and guest lectures allow our students to engage with diverse authors and genres, enriching their learning journey.
In Psychology, we take a holistic approach to understanding the human mind, fostering empathy while equipping students with knowledge to address the complex realities of human behaviour. From research to real-world applications, our department offers a blend of theoretical learning and practical experiences, including events like Mental Health Week and fieldwork.
The Journalism department prepares students to become storytellers of the modern era, equipping them with the skills to craft impactful narratives. Through hands-on training in news reporting, feature writing, and multimedia storytelling, our students learn to critically engage with the world and communicate societal issues effectively. Our media fest, industrial visits, and media projects provide valuable experiential learning opportunities.
Kannada stands as a celebration of our cultural heritage, where students not only delve into the beauty of Kannada literature but also gain a profound sense of pride in our linguistic and cultural roots. By blending classical and contemporary elements, the department fosters inclusivity and helps preserve our rich cultural history.
What sets our department apart is the spirit of collaboration. We encourage interdisciplinary projects and events that bring together students from diverse fields, creating a rich environment for exchange and understanding. This collaborative approach reflects the interconnected nature of human experience, where each discipline contributes to a fuller picture of the world we inhabit.
As a department, we strive to empower students not only to understand the world but also to actively contribute to its transformation. We are committed to fostering a community of learners who are intellectually competent, empathetic, and prepared to lead with integrity. Through the combined strengths of English Literature, Psychology, Journalism, and Kannada, we weave a narrative of enlightenment, empathy, and empowerment.
We are excited to welcome you into this journey, and I look forward to witnessing your growth and success within the Department of Humanities.
