Awareness Program

Awareness Program on Human Rights and Suicide Prevention.
The Social Work Department organizes awareness programs focused on human rights and suicide prevention to educate students and the community about these critical issues. Through workshops, discussions, and collaborations with experts, we aim to promote understanding, reduce stigma, and empower individuals to take action in advocating for human rights and mental well-being

Red Ribbon Distribution

Distribution of red ribbons on World Aids Day is observed on 1st December. It is important to raise awareness and foster empathy within the community. It symbolizes solidarity with individuals affected by HIV/AIDS, reduces stigma, and emphasizes the importance of prevention, testing, and treatment.

Ambedkar Jayanti
Guest Lectures

Lecture series on the relevance of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s ideas to social work practice, emphasizing his contributions to social justice, equality, and human rights. These discussions highlight how Ambedkar’s principles can be applied to address issues such as caste discrimination, empowerment of marginalized communities, and promoting inclusivity. The lectures inspire students to incorporate these ideals in their future social work practice.

Medical Camp

Organization of medical camps to provide essential healthcare services to underserved communities. These camps offer free check-ups, health screenings, and basic treatments, promoting awareness of preventive health practices. By addressing health disparities and ensuring access to healthcare, the initiative plays a crucial role in improving community well-being and fostering social responsibility among students.

Blood Donation Camp

Organization of blood donation camps in collaboration with Aweksha, an NGO, and Victoria Government Hospital. The collected blood is donated to support the most vulnerable populations in society, including those in critical need, such as patients with chronic illnesses, accident victims, and individuals facing life-threatening conditions

Collaborative Activities

Collaboration with Alternative Law Forum, an NGO from Bangalore, to conduct a workshop on the POCSO (Prevention of Child Sexual Offences) Act, educating students on child protection and legal rights. Additionally, Fr. Jerry Rosario, founder of Dhanam, held a session at Don Bosco College, emphasizing the life-saving importance of organ donation and encouraging students to become donors.

Fieldwork Placements

Fieldwork placements are an integral part of the Social Work Department’s academic curriculum, offering students hands-on experience in real-world settings. Students are required to complete their concurrent fieldwork in diverse organizations, including NGOs, hospitals, and industries. These placements provide practical exposure, enhance professional skills, and enable students to apply theoretical knowledge to address social issues effectively.

Partnering with various non-governmental organizations such as the Indian Social Institute, Brothers Integrated Rural Development Society (BIRDS), Bangalore, Rural, Educational And Developmental Society (BIRDS), Aweksha, SICHREM (South India Cell for Human Rights Education and Monitoring) and many more for our Concurrent Fieldwork and Internship placements.

Rural and Tribal Camps

Tribal and rural camps form a vital component of the academic curriculum for both undergraduate and postgraduate social work students. These immersive experiences enable students to explore diverse cultures, traditions, and societal structures. Through camp activities, students develop essential skills such as coordination, organization, teamwork, leadership, and communication, enhancing their professional competence and understanding of community dynamics.
