On June 3, 2025, Don Bosco College, KR Puram, Bengaluru, hosted a tree plantation drive on the campus to mark World Environment Day. The program was conducted in collaboration with Citizen Watch Company and coordinated by the Department of Social Work.
Students, staff, and guests planted 25 saplings of Pongamia Pinnata (Indian beech tree/Honge Mara). The activity aimed to promote environmental awareness and contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Mr. Marimuthu Yoganathan was the chief guest. He is known as the ‘Tree Man’ for his tree-planting efforts throughout Tamil Nadu. He addressed the participants and shared insights about his long-standing involvement in tree-planting initiatives, which started at the age of 12. He has planted over 3 lakh trees, including fruit-bearing, timber, and medicinal varieties.
The event was held in the presence of Rev. Dr. Wilson KD, Director of Don Bosco College; Mr. Vinod Kumar M, Vice Principal; Mr. Saurabh Kamal, Department of Social Work, Mr. Laxmikanthan Damodaran, Managing Director – India, Citizen Watch Co.; Mr. Joncy John, Deputy General Manager, Citizen; and other representatives from Citizen Watch Co. Volunteers from the Department of Social Work and the NSS Unit of the college participated in the plantation activity and assisted in organizing the program.
