


A workshop on Solid Waste Management was conducted at Don Bosco College on February 14, 2025. Organized by the SORT team in association with the NSS club, the workshop focused on waste segregation and sustainable waste management practices.
The event began with an address by Rev. Dr. Wilson, Director and Rector of the college, who spoke about the importance of sustainability and student participation in waste management initiatives. Rev. Dr. Geo Kalladanthiyil, Principal, announced the installation of dustbins for segregating dry, wet, and hazardous waste as part of the college’s sustainability efforts.
A street play by the Infinite Arts Foundation Team highlighted the significance of waste segregation. The felicitation ceremony honored Rev. Dr. Wilson, Rev. Dr. Geo, Fr. Sanjay, Administrator, Ms. Archana Sukumaran, NSS Faculty Coordinator, and NSS members Nadhiya Shaneer, Sruthi S, Uday Kiran, and Yeshashwini B S with flower vases made from recycled materials.
Ms. Spurthi, Project Coordinator of S.O.R.T, led the workshop, explaining waste segregation methods, case studies, statistics, and demonstrating plastic waste disposal. The session included a discussion addressing student queries on waste management. The contribution of housekeeping staff, including Ms. Devi, Ms. Padmamma, and Mr. Krishna Murthy, in maintaining bio-waste composters and campus cleanliness was acknowledged. A Waste Management Committee Training was also conducted to guide committee members on campus waste segregation initiatives. The workshop concluded with discussions on implementing sustainable waste management practices within the college.
