Greening the Campus: Don Bosco College Embraces Sustainable Development

On October 4, 2024, Don Bosco College, K R Puram, took a significant step toward aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The college hosted an interactive session with Mr. Aditya Vardhan Joshi, Chief Functionary, and Ms. Rita Joshi, CSR team member from the Swarn Lata Motherson Trust (SLMTT). The officials engaged with the college’s NSS Club members and the SORT (Segregation of Waste for Recycling and Treatment) project, promoting environmental stewardship among students and staff.

Mr. Joshi emphasized the vital role of youth in championing clean, green practices and urged them to carry forward sustainability efforts both on and off campus. Don Bosco’s Principal, Rev. Fr. Dr. Geo, addressed the gathering and encouraged adopting broader sustainability practices. He praised the CSR team’s commitment and the college’s growing involvement in eco-friendly initiatives.

Rev. Fr. Sanjay, the College Administrator, announced upcoming projects, such as a vegetable garden, to further contribute to the SORT initiative. Following the session, participants toured the compost bins installed on campus, a key element of the SORT project. Mr. Joshi offered insights into enhancing their efficiency, acknowledging the progress made over the last two months. NSS Faculty Coordinator Ms. Archana Sukumaran reaffirmed her dedication to promoting eco-friendly initiatives at the college. The session concluded with Mr. Joshi meeting Rev. Fr. Wilson, the College Rector, who encouraged students to stay engaged with sustainability efforts. Don Bosco College’s efforts set a notable example for educational institutions contributing to the UN’s global sustainability goals.
