The Department of Social Work, in association with CIVIDEP, an organisation working on labour rights, organised the screening of the documentary ‘Garment Kelsa’ on August 28, 2025, at Don Bosco College. The session began with an introduction by Ms. Roshini and Ms. Mithali, representatives from CIVIDEP.
The documentary highlighted the challenges faced by garment workers, including long working hours for minimal pay, inadequate breaks, and insufficient provisions for rest. Testimonies in the film described how many women, feeling sick and exhausted, resorted to spending time in restrooms as the only option for relief.
The film also addressed discrimination in the workplace, showing how Kannada-speaking women were favoured over Hindi-speaking workers, leading to inequalities in treatment and opportunities. The screening was attended by over 40 students from BA, BSW, and BBA programmes, along with faculty members from the Departments of Humanities and Social Work.
