On October 29, 2024, Don Bosco College organized a ‘Training and Capacity Building Workshop on Solid Waste Management led by the Segregation of Waste for Recycling and Treatment (SORT) team. The workshop was held for the college’s National Service Scheme (NSS) members, supporting staff, and gardeners, focusing on waste segregation and sustainable waste practices.
Project coordinator Ms. Spurthi and community mobilizer Mr. Munna Saha conducted sessions on effective waste segregation techniques and proper disposal methods. NSS members were encouraged to expand their environmental initiatives through classroom programs and outreach in nearby schools and colleges.
Fr. Wilson Konthempilly, Director of Don Bosco College, acknowledged the NSS members’ efforts and, along with Ms. Spurthi and Mr. Munna Saha, felicitated the two support staff members for managing the college’s bio-waste composter. The workshop concluded with announcing the college’s first harvest of organic manure, a 60-70 kg batch produced from bio-waste composted over 50-60 days, marking Don Bosco College’s initial step in organized waste management.
