The Department of Social Work at Don Bosco College organized a public talk on substance abuse on April 18, 2026. The session was delivered by Dr. Sandeep Gunjal, IRS, Joint Commissioner of Bengaluru Customs.
The speaker addressed the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, including the classification of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and the regulation of their possession, consumption, sale, and trafficking. He explained penalties under the Act, including imprisonment and fines based on the quantity involved.
The session also covered the risks of involvement in drug-related activities and cases where individuals are used as carriers of illegal substances. Examples were shared to explain the application of the law.
Participants included members of the College Student Council, NSS volunteers, and students from the Humanities and Computer Science departments. The programme began with an inauguration ceremony and concluded with an interactive discussion.
