Don Bosco College marked the 69th Kannada Rajyotsava as ‘Namma Habba’ with a vibrant celebration showcasing Karnataka’s cultural richness. The event commenced in the morning with the college campus adorned in coconut palms, mango leaves, and Karnataka flags.
The Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor of Bengaluru North University, Dr. Niranjan Vanalli, was welcomed alongside other dignitaries with traditional Dollu Kunitha, Kamsale dance performances, and a procession of 40 beautifully adorned Kalashas. Dr. Vanalli hoisted the Kannada Rajyotsava flag, followed by the State Anthem sung by the Kannada Sangha Group.
Dr. Vanalli emphasized preserving and promoting the Kannada language in his keynote address. “Kannadigas are not just those who speak Kannada; everyone in Karnataka is a Kannadiga. It is vital to learn, use, and nurture Kannada in daily life,” he stated. He exhorted everyone to join hands in nurturing and enriching the language.
Dr. K. Thippe Swamy, Registrar of Evaluation at Bengaluru North University, highlighted the unparalleled legacy of Kannada literature, citing the monumental contributions of figures like Kuvempu. Actor Lokesh of Comedy Kiladi fame inspired the audience with his message: “Hard work and focus can help you achieve anything, even mastering new languages. The love and support of the people of Karnataka have brought me to this stage in life. Let us embrace and cherish Kannada with pride.”
The event featured notable dignitaries, including Dr. Narayanaswamy, BOS President; Dr. Nagaraj, BOE President, and Dr. Shobha, Principal of GFGC College, Kolar. Fr. Wilson Konthempilly, Director of Don Bosco College, and Fr. Dr. Geo Kalladanthyil, Principal of Don Bosco College, spoke on the occasion.
A highlight of the event was the Veera Kannadiga Awards, honouring individuals who excelled in Kannada literature. Awardees included Dr. Prasad Swamy S, Dr. T Yellappa, Dr. A Muniswamappa, Dr. S Thyagaraju, and other distinguished academicians. The celebration also witnessed the release of the book “Kannada Sahitya – Samskruthika Mukha Mukhi”, a collection of proceedings from a National Seminar.
Traditional dances like Dollu Kunitha and Kamsale and various Kannada-themed cultural programs enthralled the audience. The active participation of students and staff made the event a resounding success. The festivities concluded with vibrant cultural performances that reflected the spirit of Kannada Rajyotsava.
